This year’s Confirmation Class will begin on Sunday, October 3 at 5:30 P.M. with pizza and conversation for high school freshman, or other high school kids who have not been confirmed, and their parents in Bugbee Chapel.  At the meeting we will be introducing the new curriculum that will be used and getting everyone on the same page in terms of expectations and requirements.

The new curriculum features video input each week, and interactive workbook and the chance to post various projects on a national website.  In addition to attending worship and class together, working on a couple of special worship services with the Deacons, and meeting with the Deacons, members of the class will also be participating in one of our food related mission activities, a service project and with the Sunday School.  Members of the group who successfully complete the class will be confirmed on April 10, 2011.

More information will soon be sent to those who have previously been registered in the Sunday school, but if you have any questions, please be in touch with Barry.

Tell Us a Bible Story!

Summer Segments 2010

Summer Segments is the name we have for Summer Sunday School, when the kids gather in the Bugbee Center to share a lesson and activity while the adults remain in worship.  This year our theme is “Tell Us a BIBLE Story!”  and we are looking for adults in the church to take a turn sharing a Bible Story with the kids - - but, not just any Bible story.  We want each person to share his or her own favorite Bible Story.  It can be Old or New Testament.  It can be a favorite from your Sunday School days, or one that has become meaningful to you more recently.  It can be a Bible Story you have found helps you through a bad day or gives you a lift, or just makes you smile.  Barry is keeping the sign-up sheet, so see him to sign up.  We would like to have a different story each week, so sign-up early to be sure your story is told.  There are only twelve weeks to fill, so don’t put off signing up.

On the day, you tell your Bible Story, you will head to room 211 for Summer Segments with the kids following the Children’s message.  Once there you can read the story from a Bible or a Children’s Bible, or tell it in your own words, and then help the kids with a craft, game or activity we will have prepared ahead of time for that particular story.  At 11:00 a.m. you can join everyone in the Foundation Room for lemonade.

Our Church School classes are held on Sunday morning. Infants and children up to 2 years old may go to the Care Center before the beginning of worship or at any time during worship. At 10 o’clock we gather in the sanctuary for the beginning of worship and then following a Children’s Message, the children age 3 through 8th grade are dismissed to classes.

Whole People of God is the name of the curriculum we use in the Sunday School and one of the great things about it is that the lessons follow the lectionary we use in worship.   In order to help underline this and to help families start to talk more about the Bible, church and Sunday School, we are using the Bible passage that will be studied in Sunday School as the first scripture reading during worship.  That means everyone will hear the same reading, and there will be some common talking points for later on.

There are bookmarks available at the church which list all the readings for each Sunday.

Each member of a family therefore hers and learns about a passage on his or her own level, making it possible for members of a family to talk about scripture if they wish. Class time also includes crafts and other activities to make the Bible vibrant and relevant in the 21st century.
