Gulf Coast

We are fortunate to have had a couple of our members involved in the disaster relief ministry of the Connecticut Conference and so have had a chance to participate in several work trips to the Gulf Coast of the USA to be part of the ongoing rebuilding needed in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. With whole section of the coast and entire communities destroyed the recovering process is ongoing and the need is nearly as great as it was in the first few days after Katrina hit. We do not have a schedule of future trips, but there will be more. Check back here for more information, and watch the pages of our newsletter, Highlights

October Mission Trip Print E-mail

Returning to the Gulf Coast...

The Mission Board is sponsoring another mission trip to the Gulf Coast. This trip will be to help re-build homes in New Orleans.

There is still work to be done?

There is still much to do...many homes take 9 months to re-build with volunteer labor.

When will it be?

We will be leaving on Sunday, October 10 and returning on Saturday, October 16.

What airlines will be used?

This is your choice........Southwest Airlines has reasonable prices, but you can use any airline you want or whatever airline accepts your frequent flyer miles.

Where will you stay?

We will be staying at the Little Farms Congregational Church in River Ridge (about 5 minutes from the airport) in a residential area. Sunday School Rooms have been modified with comfortable bunk beds.

Where do you eat?

We eat our meals in the “dining room” at the church. We purchase the food and prepare our own meals and have dinner together each night.

What work will you be doing?

We never quite know until we get there but it may be painting, flooring, tiling, roofing, installing sheetrock, baseboard molding or door trim or even building a deck. It is guaranteed you will learn a new skill.

So, what are the requirements to go?

The trip is open to everyone 18 and older: Members and friends of the church, neighbors, family. Willingness to learn a skill, patience and a sense of humor are the only requirements.

What do you accomplish on a work trip to the Gulf Coast?

You will make a difference in the life of someone and their family. You will receive more than you can give. You may have a life changing experience.

What will it cost?

Your airfare, $100.00 per person for food for the week and share in the cost of a van rental with the other members of the group.

Who can I contact?

Jo-Ann Hornyak or Anne Kirkpatrick
